Hornsey Ward: Keeping You Informed, Connected, Involved

🚮 Behind the Scenes at Haringey’s Waste Depot
This week I visited Haringey and Veolia's waste depot in the far corner of the borough with fellow Councillors and our Cabinet member for Waste, Cllr Seema Chandwani to see how our waste and recycling services operate day to day. When you ask residents what they most expect from the Council, the answer is often simple: collect the bins on time — and I’m proud that Haringey has a strong record on this. 💪🏼 It was brilliant to meet the team at the depot and see how the magic

🌳🌼 New Trees for Priory Park’s Revamped Playground
We had a fantastic time in Priory Park this week, planting new trees as part of the park’s ongoing regeneration. With the upgraded playground now open and already being enjoyed by families across Hornsey, this next phase brings even more life, shade and nature into the space. Cllr Dana Carlin and Cllr Adam Small joined local children — and the brilliant council tree team (thank you Dan and Anne!) — to plant a series of new trees around the playground 🌱🙌🏼. These trees wi

🚸 Keeping Our Streets Safe: Rokesly Avenue Update
Thank you to everyone on Rokesly Avenue who took part in our road safety and speeding survey earlier this year. We had over 30 responses from 28 households , and the message was: speeding and unsafe driving are major concerns for residents. Your feedback paints a worrying picture. Only 10% of respondents feel the road is consistently safe, while 90% say it is safe only sometimes — or not at all. Many residents reported witnessing drivers travelling well above 20mph , parti

🚶♀️💜 Walk for Women in Haringey
This week I was proud to join the Haringey Walk for Women — a powerful and inspiring event bringing our community together to stand against violence against women and girls (VAWG) . It was moving to walk alongside residents, campaigners, local organisations and colleagues, all united in calling for safety, respect and equality for every woman and girl in our borough 💜. These events matter. They show that as a community we are not willing to stay silent, look away or accept

🚗🔄 Estate Parking Consultation – Changes Coming to Hornsey
The Council is updating the way estate parking is managed across Haringey. The current system is more than 20 years old and no longer works effectively — especially as national legislation has changed and privately-managed enforcement is no longer fit for purpose. A new, modernised scheme is now being proposed, and Hornsey estates will be part of Phase 4 of the consultation , running from 10 November to 15 December 2025 . This is your chance to help shape how parking works

🏘️🧰 Estate Inspections & Tackling Fly-Tipping Across Hornsey
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been out on a series of estate inspections with council officers and local residents, visiting a number of blocks across the ward — including Chasewater, Elgar, Tennyson, Moore, Audley and Harvey . These walkabouts are an important way for us to see issues first-hand and make sure nothing gets missed. Together, we picked up a wide range of repairs and maintenance concerns, including: 🔧 fixing broken lights and communal fixtures 🧹 improved cle

🌺 Remembrance Sunday in Hornsey and Wood Green
Remembrance Sunday is always an important and reflective day. We were honoured to represent Hornsey at several services across the borough where we could pay our respects to those from Hornsey who gave their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we too often take for granted. We began the morning at the Hornsey War Memorial on Park Road , where we laid a wreath on behalf of Haringey Labour , alongside our Hornsey and Friern Barnet MP Catherine West. It was a dignified and tho

🏛️ Strengthening Scrutiny: Learning, Listening and Doing the Job Well
Earlier this year, I was elected as Chair of Haringey’s Housing, Planning and Development Scrutiny Panel , as well as joining the borough’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee . It’s a big responsibility, and I’m determined to do the job properly. Scrutiny isn’t always the most visible part of what councillors do, but it’s where we can make a real difference — by asking tough but fair questions, challenging the evidence, and pushing for better outcomes for residents across Hornse

🚗⚡ Have Your Say: Kerbside & Electric Vehicle Strategy Consultations
Haringey is beginning an exciting piece of work to reimagine our streets — making them safer, greener, and more sustainable for everyone. From Monday 6 October , residents, stakeholders, community groups and councillors will all be invited to help shape the future of how our streets are used 🛣️🌱. Your feedback will play a central role

🏘️📘 Haringey’s Draft Local Plan — What It Means for Hornsey
The council has now published the Draft Local Plan , setting out a long-term vision for how Haringey will grow and evolve over the next decade and beyond. This includes a dedicated section for Hornsey , based on what residents told us during the earlier “First Steps” engagement in 2020/2021. It’s important to say that the Draft Local Plan does not mean development is being approved or that the council is actively bringing these sites forward. Instead, the Plan sets out a fra
