Thank you to everyone on Rokesly Avenue who took part in our road safety and speeding survey earlier this year. We had over 30 responses from 28 households, and the message was: speeding and unsafe driving are major concerns for residents.

Your feedback paints a worrying picture. Only 10% of respondents feel the road is consistently safe, while 90% say it is safe only sometimes — or not at all. Many residents reported witnessing drivers travelling well above 20mph, particularly in the evenings. 🚗💨

A number of you identified the wide, open section around the bend as a key danger point, where drivers often accelerate after being held up in the narrower bottlenecks. When asked about change, 60% said they want action, and another 40%said they’d support improvements depending on the proposal. Only a very small number preferred no measures at all.

We also heard your concerns about ensuring any changes do not disrupt the W3 bus route or worsen congestion — and we completely agree. 🚌

Since receiving the survey results, we’ve pushed this issue forward. We met with the council’s traffic and engineering officers to set out residents’ concerns and have raised the matter directly with Cllr Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Highways. We were clear: the situation on Rokesly Avenue cannot continue without some intervention

.

Last week, we secured an on-site visit with officers. Together, we looked at how the current road layout encourages speeding, how drivers gather speed along the open stretch, and how limited signage contributes to the problem. We also walked the bottleneck by the Tottenham Lane bus stop to highlight the difficulties it creates. 👣🛣️

We are now waiting for officers’ formal recommendations, and we will share these as soon as they arrive.

In the meantime, we want all Hornsey residents to know that we take this seriously — and we will continue pushing for the safer, calmer streets our community deserves.
