Hi everyone,
I know that times are tough for many people in Hornsey right now, and I want to make sure you know about all the support available to help you manage the cost of living.
Whether you’re struggling with bills, need help with food or essential items, or just want to check if you’re entitled to benefits, Haringey Council has a range of support schemes that could make a real difference.
And remember—you’re not alone. If you ever need help navigating any of these services, you can always reach out to me or your other local councillors, Dana and Elin. We're here to help.

1. Check What You’re Entitled To
Sometimes, people miss out on financial support simply because they don’t realise they’re eligible. Haringey’s Benefits Calculator can help you quickly check what you might be entitled to, including:
✅ Universal Credit
✅ Housing Benefit
✅ Council Tax Support
✅ Carer’s Allowance
✅ Disability Benefits
✅ And more!
Even if you already claim any of the above, it's important to check you are receiving the right amount. It only takes a few minutes to check—so why not give it a go? You might be entitled to more support than you think.

2. Need Urgent Help? The Haringey Support Fund Can Help
If you're facing unexpected costs or struggling to afford essentials, the Haringey Support Fund might be able to help. This fund provides one-off payments for things like:
💡 Gas & electricity
🛏️ Essential household furniture & appliances
👕 Clothing
🥫 Emergency food support
If you need help, please don’t hesitate to apply. You’ll need some basic details like your National Insurance number, proof of income, and recent bank statements.
3. Get Help with Your Council Tax
Council Tax can be a big expense, but if you’re on a low income or receiving benefits, Haringey Council offer a reduction of up to 100%. Some people also qualify for discounts or exemptions, including:
🏠 A 25% discount if you’re the only adult living in your home
🎓 Full-time students— no Council Tax to pay at all!
🧑⚕️ Live-in carers and those with severe mental impairments may also be eligible for reductions,
If you’re unsure whether you qualify, check online or get in touch with your local councillors—we’re happy to help.
Other Ways Haringey Can Help
There’s lots more support available too, including:
🍽️ Help with food – free school meals and food banks
🔥 Energy bill support – advice and grants to keep your home warm
