This week, Haringey reached a major milestone:we’ve now ended the use of hotels as temporary accommodation for homeless families.

That matters, because behind every policy, there are real lives.

At Full Council recently, Adam spoke about a young lad in Hornsey - let’s call him Ali.

Seventeen years old, sharing a one-bedroom flat with his parents and three siblings. Sleeping in the lounge. No space to study. No room of his own.

This is what the housing crisis looks like in real life.

And while we can’t fix the national crisis alone — here in Haringey, we are giving it everything we’ve got. 💪

Ending the use of hotels for families is a big part of that. Because hotels were never good enough. They’re cramped, unstable, and make everyday life harder — especially for children.

Moving families into proper, self-contained accommodation means more stability, more dignity, and a better chance to rebuild.

This didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of sustained work, building new council homes at scale, improving existing homes, and making clear political choices to prioritise residents.

None of this was easy. None of it was inevitable.

But it shows what can be achieved when you refuse to accept second best.

We’re proud of this milestone and we’ll keep going until every resident in Hornsey has a safe, secure place to call home.
