Looking back at our 2022 promises — and what we’ve delivered...

Next week, we’ll be launching our new manifesto for Haringey. But before we do that, it’s worth taking a moment to look back at what we said in 2022 — and what we’ve actually delivered since.

Because in politics, promises matter. But delivery matters more.

We made big commitments — and we’ve delivered real results 🙌

In 2022, we said we would build 3,000 council homes by 2031.

Today, we’ve already delivered over 1,300 homes, with another 2,000 underway. 🏡

We said we’d stand up for private renters. We introduced a borough-wide landlord licensing scheme — and backed it up with enforcement, issuing hundreds of thousands of pounds in fines to rogue landlords. ⚖️

We said we’d invest in our environment. We committed to planting 10,000 trees by 2030 — and just four years in, we’ve already planted 6,000 trees, alongside 6 new tiny forests and 18 wildflower meadows. 🌳🌼

Supporting residents through tough times 💛

When the cost of living crisis hit, we said we’d step up.

We created a £2 million support fund — and went further, helping:

👉 6,000 residents directly

👉 25,000 families through council tax relief

We also helped 2,000 residents into work, because long-term security matters just as much as short-term support. 💼

Investing in what matters locally

We said we’d protect our libraries, and we did.

Not a single one closed. Instead, we invested £4.9 million into improving them. 📚

We said we’d invest in children and young people.

Today, 98% of schools are rated good or outstanding, we’ve delivered 4 new family hubs, and achieved the highest possible Ofsted rating for SEND services. 🎓

We’ve also invested £35 million into roads, pavements and street lighting, upgraded 30 parks, and made our neighbourhoods better places to live. 🌳🚶‍♂️

A council that listens 🗣️

We also said we’d do things differently — working with residents, not just for them.

Through the Haringey Deal, we’ve involved over 37,000 residents in consultations, and strengthened the role of the Youth Council so young people have a real voice in shaping the borough.

This is what delivery looks like 🌹

None of this happened by accident.

It’s the result of a Labour council that listens, that works hard, and that follows through on its promises.

We said we would. We did.

Next week, we’ll set out what comes next and how we build on this progress.

But for now, we’re proud of what’s been achieved and grateful to every resident who’s worked with us to make it happen.
