OFF THE WATCHLIST! Turning things around on housing standards in Haringey 🏡🔧

After a huge amount of work over the past few years — we’re really pleased to share that Haringey has officially been taken off the housing regulator’s watchlist and is now back in compliance. 🙌
This is a big moment.
Back in 2023, the council had to self-refer after serious issues were identified in housing safety and standards following the bringing in-house of Homes for Haringey.
Since then, thousands of fire and electrical safety works have been completed, over 1,000 homes brought up to standard, and major changes made to how the service is run.
None of this happened overnight — and it didn’t happen by accident.
Over the past few years, we’ve:
👉 Brought housing services back in-house to drive real improvement
👉 Invested millions into fixing safety issues and raising standards 💷
👉 Pushed for stronger oversight, better data, and proper accountability
👉 Worked closely with residents to make sure their voices shape the service 🗣️
This work began when Dana was Cabinet Member for Housing — helping to drive the improvement plan and get a grip on the issues. And more recently, Adam has been scrutinising this progress as Chair of the Housing Scrutiny Panel — making sure the improvements are real, sustained, and transparent. 🔍
We’re proud of the progress made — but we’re not complacent.
The regulator’s decision is an important milestone, but it doesn’t mean the job is done. Too many residents have experienced poor housing conditions in the past, and rebuilding trust takes time.
That’s why we’ll keep pushing for:
⚠️ safer homes
⚠️ better services
⚠️ and a housing system that genuinely works for residents
A big thank you to council staff, residents and partners who’ve been part of this journey — especially those who spoke up and held the system to account.
There’s been real change. But there’s still more to do — and we’re not slowing down.
