On Saturday 22nd March, I had the real pleasure of joining residents from across the Campsbourne Estate for a community Iftar at the Kurdish Advice Centre.

It was a wonderful evening filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable sense of togetherness that comes from sharing food and stories.

There was a brilliant turnout, with families and children bringing such energy to the evening. The food, lovingly prepared by Filiz and her team, was outstanding – the lentil soup and freshly baked Pide stood out in particular. More than just a meal, it was a celebration of generosity, tradition, and care.

Two signs stood proudly in the room: “Food is both the language of care and a basic human right” and “When you eat together, you stick together.” Those words captured the spirit of the evening perfectly.

Thank you to everyone who made the event possible – especially the volunteers, cooks, and organisers – and to all those who came together in the true spirit of community.

I left full, grateful, and reminded of the power of a shared table.
