After a year of campaigning, countless emails from residents, site visits, council questions and meetings with Cabinet Members and the Highways team… we’re absolutely delighted to share that Priory Road has officially been reduced from 30mph to 20mph — effective this week! 🙌💚
This change has been a major priority for residents living on Priory Road and the surrounding streets. So many of you have spoken to us about dangerous speeds, near-misses, and several serious incidents along this stretch. We’ve listened — and we’ve pushed hard.
Over the past year we’ve:
👉 Raised Priory Road at Full Council during Cabinet Questions
👉 Met repeatedly with the Highways team
👉 Taken residents’ concerns directly to Cabinet Members
👉 Highlighted the issue through casework, walkabouts and community conversations
And now — we’ve finally done it. Priory Road is 20mph. 🎉
This is a huge step forward for:
🚶♀️ pedestrians
🚴♂️ cyclists
🧑🦽 disabled residents
👨👩👧 families
🚗 and drivers too, who will benefit from calmer, safer traffic flows
It’s also a key part of Haringey Labour’s Vision Zero commitment — our mission to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on our roads and create safer streets for everyone.
A massive thank you to every resident who emailed, spoke to us on the doorstep, joined our surveys, or shared their experience. Your voices made this happen. 💛
Onwards to more improvements — and safer streets across Hornsey. 🚸💪🏼
